Critical Reflection

Q1. How does your project represent social groups or issues?

The song we chose for our music video, "Moving On" revolves around the idea of how going through the process of healing from a past relationship reflects the broader issue of mental health and the importance of resilience in overcoming challenges such as heartbreak and loss.Heartbreak has the power to push someone to their lowest depths and keep them at their lowest. We chose a social group that is representative of supportive communities. The video can relate to anyone who has relied on their social circle for emotional support during challenging times. This includes individuals from various age groups and backgrounds. Embracing a new beginning, the video promotes themes of empowerment and self-discovery. This can resonate with individuals who are seeking to find strength within themselves and move forward in their lives. As I continue, The badminton sports session involving passersby in the park showcases a sense of unity and solidarity among people from diverse backgrounds. This promotes the idea of coming together as a community to support one another, regardless of differences. The act of throwing the memento from the past relationship into the water symbolizes the process of letting go and moving forward. To represent the universal experience of facing and overcoming obstacles in life, ultimately emerging stronger on the other side.. Furthermore, when we see him celebrating with a community of supportive individuals, the visual presentation takes on a cheerful atmosphere, showing how comfortable, happy, and peaceful he felt.

Q2. How do elements of your production work together to make a sense of "branding"?

In establishing our brand, we had various options to consider. Throughout the entire process, both internal and external factors played a significant role.

Internally, our focus was on elements such as camera angles, editing techniques, poses, and color palettes, all of which contributed to creating a cohesive brand identity. We achieved this by maintaining a consistent yet distinct color scheme across our product, as well as adhering to certain conventions to ensure a unified visual aesthetic. For instance, we utilized a blend of blue and white hues in the opening scenes, while scenes set near the river were imbued with a yellowish filter. Additionally, we infused a sense of excitement and uniqueness inspired by the album cover of Luco, crafting an unconventional atmosphere that set our project apart. Our team dedicated considerable effort to infusing our work with a distinct identity that reflects our vision and distinguishes it from other media forms.

Externally, we influenced our social media platforms to promote our music video, sharing teasers, snippets, and behind-the-scenes photographs leading up to the official release. This proactive approach helped us generate anticipation and garnered enthusiastic responses from our audience eagerly awaiting the video. To maintain consistency with our final product, we aligned our promotional materials with the yellow & orange theme present throughout our campaign. Our strategic use of social media sparked significant engagement, allowing us to effectively establish our project's identity and communicate its creative essence to a wider audience.

Q3. How do your products engage with the audience?

Although there is no set age range for our product's target market, we highlighted how moving on from a heartbreak can be overcome through a supportive community.

Our product was aimed at late teens and early adults. It was intended to capture the spirit of bittersweet love and appeal to both the "relatable audience" and young people. Although everyone experiences the negative aspects of love at some point in their lives, the concept of heartbreak cannot be generalised. Also, the conventions of our product stand out as an aesthetically beautiful video. We used various lighting and scenery to illustrate a plot and maintain the audience's interest. As a metaphor for how a heartbreak may result in various forms of distress , we used a suspenseful build-up to the final scene where the main character throws away the momento he had from the past. The color scheme was chosen to be eye-catching, but not too light or bright for the eyes, and to maintain the viewer's interest. In order to serve a variety of audiences, we put Stuart Hall's idea of "Audience Reception" into practice. Our social media presence played a significant role in keeping our audience interested. It also kept them on the edge of their seats as we built up the excitement for the release of the final video.

Q4. How did your research form your products and the way the use or challenge conventions?

We used a variety of social networking sites and Luc's look as inspiration for our project. We wanted to keep the vibrant, understated aesthetic in our theme. To avoid having an overwhelming or underwhelming project, we had to make sure that the results of all of our research added up. The subject matter of our music video falls within the pop/contemporary genre, and in order to understand that, we watched a variety of clips and music videos. The "Eyes Closed" by Ed Sheeran which features the color themes of dark blue and yellowish tone, served as our inspiration for the color grading system we used at the beginning of the video. We used Luco's album cover as inspiration for our digipak because it features a girl near a river witnessing the sun set. We attempted to portray our digipak in a similar manner. We employed various editing strategies to give it the gloomy appearance we desired. To provide a sense of coherence, we also used several font types while maintaining the vibe of our music video.
